Spring has sprung

The last two weeks have been totally wonderful - blue skies, warm sunshine, spring blossom everywhere and birds singing - even skylarks spiralling high above the downland fields. It feels like emerging from hibernation, the winter seemed particularly dark this year somehow.

Now I can really appreciate retirement. Its as if the winter was a waiting time. How empowering to be be able to do a couple of hours relaxed gardening, and then say to myself " I will do the rest tomorrow" and not have to worry that it will have to wait until the next weekend. Hurrah!!!

There have been many happenings since I last blogged, and they can wait. But one event wont wait.

My youngest daughter's boyfriend proposed to her on Valentine's Day, on the beach where they went on their first date, (and where his Springer spaniel drank too much seawater and threw up magnificently at her feet! ) They chose the ring together, its an old one which they both think is much nicer than a modern one. I agree.

I expect the weather will revert to a chillier normal state for March, but these have been happy times.

Yep, good to see you back after so long.
I see the same relaxedness in my Dad; After a lifetime of breathless working, he's now more laidback and doing things at his own pace.

And I wonder whether one needs to cross a particular age to get to this relaxed way of working. Something for me to ponder about :-)

That's very happy news indeed! And very romantic of your future SIL to propose on Valentine's Day...on the beach, no less....where the dog threw up (ha ha ha). Poor pooch.
I agree too that the ring is much nicer than a modern one. It's beautiful!
So glad you've had wonderful weather. I hope it keeps up. You're right...it does feel like emerging from hibernation. I've often thought that.
This morning I worked for the first time this year at my favorite nursery, and then worked in my garden doing clean-up this afternoon. The warm air was such a treat after all the cold winds we've had during March.
Happy retirement gardening Val! :) And a very happy spring to you and yours.
